Description:

Near East / Western Asia, Persia, Nishapur or Kashan, Islamic culture, ca. late 10th to early 13th century CE. A sumptuous oinochoe of an attractive form hand-built from quartz-based pottery and embellished with highly iridescent alkaline glaze of a blue-green hue. The piriform pitcher is supported by a squat foot and has a slender strap handle arching between the midsection of the body as well as the back rim of the trefoil-style pouring spout. Faint black frets further adorn the body and allude to just how opulent this vessel appeared when first created. Size: 4.6" Diameter x 6" H (11.7 cm x 15.2 cm)

  • Condition: Neck and handle professionally repaired with some light restoration over break lines. Old chips to rim and foot. Expected surface wear with a few nicks commensurate with age. Otherwise, excellent with beautiful craquelure and stunning iridescence to glaze.
