Near East, Persia (Iran), Nishapur area, Islamic, ca. late 10th century to early 13th century CE. A gorgeous pair of pottery oil lamps with white bodies made from fine ground quartz mixed with clay and enveloped in a brilliant turquoise glaze with shimmering iridescence and lovely craquelure. Displaying differing forms, the larger presents a pinched top bowl, with its very narrow spout for a wick, sitting atop a long, thin neck over a broad foot with a slightly raised rim and a ribbon-form handle connecting foot to bowl. Alternatively, the more petite vessel exhibits a squat, rounded body with a raised rim, and extending spout and a curled handle. Size of larger: 3.1" Diameter x 2.3" H (7.9 cm x 5.8 cm)

  • Condition: Repair and restoration to larger with some reglazing and chipping to rim. Losses to spout and rim of more petite, as well chipping to handle. Otherwise, both are very nice with great iridescence and craquelure to glaze.
