Description:

Medieval Near East, Persia (Iran), Nishapur area, Islamic culture, ca. 10th to early 13th century CE. A wheel-thrown pottery mug of a squat form with a cylindrical body resting atop a petite, flared foot. Surrounding the top of the walls is a broad rim with a rounded lip, and a curving handle is situated on one side of the exterior. Lustrous blue-green glaze envelops the entire vessel save for the lower body and foot and has developed brilliant areas of rainbow iridescence. Size: 6.4" W x 4.25" H (16.3 cm x 10.8 cm)

  • Condition: Rim repaired and restored from several pieces with chips and light adhesive residue along new material and break lines. Nicks to foot and rim, with chipping to areas of glaze pigment, and light encrustations. Nice iridescence and craquelure to glaze.
