Description:

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, Islamic, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A hand-built pottery oil lamp of an open form that is enveloped in lustrous layers of emerald-green glaze. The lamp features a protruding foot, a bowl-shaped body with a pinched spout, and a thick loop handle. Oil lamps like this example have been used for centuries across the Near East, and the open design allowed it to be repeatedly filled without having to remove and replace a lid. Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired by the present owner in the mid-1960s in Tehran, Iran
