Description:

Near East / Middle East, Islamic world, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A gorgeous glazed ceramic bowl with deep blue, sky blue, and cream-colored glaze around its fluted body, with gold paint around the rim and square gold motifs of vines and flowers on each fluted exterior side. The interior is solidly deep blue and the bowl stands on a round, unglazed foot. Heavily glazed bowls from the medieval Islamic period seem to have been inspired by Chinese ceramics, which people in the Near East would have seen arriving from caravans on the Silk Road. Size: 6.7" W x 4.5" H (17 cm x 11.4 cm)
