Description:

Central Asia, likely Iran / Persia, Islamic culture, ca. 10th to 13th century CE. A pretty pottery bowl painted with an abstract patterning on a white ground in brown, black, pale turquoise, and cobalt under a transparent glaze. The elongated script in blue is probably decorative pseudo-calligraphy. The central basin is divided into quarters by radial lines and a rounded crosshatch pattern. Size: 7" Diameter x 2.5" H (17.8 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, inherited via grandfather, who collected before 1980
